The Vietnamese Hmong minority has a long tradition of using natural materials to make tools and clothing for their daily lives. Currently, the traditional craft is in danger of being lost, and at the same time, people from the community have been looking for ways to earn an income from their craft. Living with the minority the role of the designer was to give new ideas of using their traditional processes.
Indibuu 2 is a furniture collection that combines a traditional weaving technique for making rice screens with wood. The concept of this collection is to use the bamboo weave only as part of the product, which can be easily packed and delivered and combined with wood. Indigo dye is used to dye the fabric, which is also a tradition in the community, but was not usually used in this context. With the natural dyeing technique can create different patterns without toxic chemicals, which is another traditional craft in the manufacturing process of the products.
